Chapter 26a–Ancient Devotion: The Value of True Friendship

Then, the Enlightened One spoke to the gathered spiritual seekers:

Long ago, in a time so distant it can’t be measured, a great spiritual leader emerged. He was known as “The One of Resonant Voice, Bedecked with Stars and Blossoms, Profound in Wisdom,” a fully enlightened being gifted in wisdom and ethical living. This occurred in the era called Beautiful Vision, in the world illuminated by the Radiance of the Universal Sun. At that time, people of all backgrounds followed the teachings of this spiritual leader.

In ancient times, a king named Subhavyūha (Good Array) ruled the land. He married Queen Vimaladatta (Purely Given) and had two sons: Vimalagarbha (Pure Essence) and Vimalanetra (Pure Vision). These young men were not just princes, but spiritual seekers endowed with magical abilities and wisdom. They practiced virtues like generosity, ethics, patience, energy, and focus. They were masters of various forms of meditation, including Vimala (Purification) and Nakshatraragāditya, (Sun and Star Delight) among others.

Out of compassion for the people, the Enlightened One, “The One of Resonant Voice, Bedecked with Stars and Blossoms, Profound in Wisdom,” was preaching the Lotus of the True Law.
