Mr. Altig’s Overview of the Wonderful Dharma of the Lotus Sutra

Oh Lotus Sutra, divine and grand,
A guide to help us understand,
The path to peace and pure delight,
And bring us into Buddha’s light.

Bodhisattvas-mahasattvas vow,
To spread your teachings here and now,
To share the way to enlightenment,
With all, without discrimination.

The Buddha’s divine powers are shown,
By extending tongue and light, well known,
To Brahma heaven he does reach,
And light up worlds beyond our reach.

The completeness of teachings sure,
In Lotus Sutra, so grand and pure,
The Buddha expounded every one,
And showed us how to end our run.

Encouragement to all of us,
To read, share, and never fuss,
And help all sentient beings too,
For that’s the Buddhist way so true.

The key message of this chapter bright,
To attest to truth, divine might,
And show us all, the path to take,
And for our souls, the way to make.

In poetic stanzas, Buddha speaks,
And summarizes, no truth to tweak,
A grand message for all of us,
So read on, with a joyful fuss.

Oh Lotus Sutra, you shine so bright,
And guide us on our path so right,
We’ll spread your teachings near and far,
And end our lives, like a shooting star.
