Chapter 7–Symphony of the Cosmos: The Brahma Angels in the Lotus Sutra

The scene repeated itself across the cosmos. In the south-west, in the west, in the north-west, in the north, in the north-east, and in the nadir, the same occurrence unfolded, like a symphony resonating through space and time. The aerial cars of the Brahma angels shone with a divine light, reflecting the Buddha’s enlightened presence.

Then, in the depths of the nadir, within fifty hundred thousand myriads of kotis of spheres, the Brahma angels gathered once again, filled with a sense of awe and reverence. They went to each other’s abodes and communicated the profound occurrence, sensing that something extraordinary was taking place.

After that, the great Brahma angel named Sikhin23, a being of immense wisdom and compassion, took it upon himself to address the numerous host of Brahma angels. Recognizing the significance of the moment, he began to speak, his voice filled with an ancient, resonating truth. As the Brahma angels listened intently, Sikhin expressed their collective understanding and yearning through the following verses.

What may the cause be, friends so dear,
That our cars glow bright, so crystal clear?
With splendor, color, and light they gleam,
A sight so wondrous, like a dream.

Not seen before, nor heard of too,
These cars with glory now imbue;
So bright, so splendid, what’s the lore?
What makes them shine forevermore?

Is it a god, with power untold,
Bestowed on worlds for deeds of old?
Or is it now, the world does glean,
A Buddha’s birth, a radiant sheen?
