Then Yasodharā, the mother of Rahula, felt a pang of disappointment, thinking, “The Lord has not mentioned me.”
Understanding her thoughts, the Buddha spoke to her: “Yasodharā, fear not. You will also become a Bodhisattva and a teacher of spiritual law. You will guide ten thousand kotis of others on their paths to enlightenment, and you will become a Buddha known as The Banner Complete with a Hundred Thousand Rays. You will shine in the world named Bhadra, and your time as a guide will be without end.”
When the noble matron Gautamī, the nun, with her suite of six thousand nuns, and Yasodharā, the nun, with her suite of four thousand nuns, heard from the Lord their future destiny to supreme, perfect enlightenment, they uttered, in wonder and amazement:
O Lord, our guide so true,
Trainer, leader, master too,
Of the world, gods and all below,
Comfort’s giver in joy and woe,
Men and gods to you do raise,
Their voices in eternal praise,
Now, with hearts so satisfied,
In your wisdom, we abide.
After uttering this verse, the nuns said to the Lord: We also, O Lord, will exert ourselves to divulge this Dharmaparyâya (Universal spiritual truths taught through complex parables and metaphors) in the last days, though in other worlds.
