Chapter 25e–The Giantesses’ Vow: A Covenant of Eternal Protection

Then a group of giantesses—Lamba, Vilamba, Kutadanti, Pushpadanti, Makutadanti, Kesini, Akala, Maladhari, Kunti, Sarvasattvogahara, and Hariti—approached the Lord, each with their children and entourage. They declared in unison: “We, too, will protect those who uphold these teachings. We’ll ensure they remain safe from anyone seeking to harm them.”

Together, they presented the Lord with a sequence of protective spells:

“In ‘iti me,’ find your grounding, strong and true,
With ‘nime,’ let no darkness ever shadow you.

In ‘ruhe,’ may your spirit find its sacred rest,
And ‘stuhe,’ stand resilient, forever blessed.

With the final chant of ‘svaha,’ let it be,
A circle of protection, for eternity.”

“No one will overpower or harm these preachers, be it goblin, giant, ghost, devil, imp, sorcerer, or any other malevolent being. Even if they dream of menacing figures, male or female, they will remain unharmed.”

Together, the giantesses spoke in unison as they presented the following verses to the Lord:

His head shall in seven ways split and be torn,
Like the sprout of Lodhra, if a preacher he’d scorn.
To the path of those who kill mother and sire,
Shall go the one fueled by harmful desire.

Like the miller grinding oil, lost in his task,
So shall be the one a preacher would unmask.
As he cheats with his scales, his fate in decline,
So shall be the one who crosses this line.

Following this, the group of giantesses led by Kunti spoke to the Lord: “We too will protect those who preach these teachings. We’ll ensure their safety and shield them from attacks and poison.” The Lord responded: “Well done, sisters, well done. It’s good that you offer your protection to these preachers, even if they only remember the name of this Sutra. Imagine how much more deserving of your protection are those who fully embrace these teachings or honor the text with offerings like flowers, incense, garlands, ointments, and various kinds of lamps.”

While this chapter on protective spells was being discussed, 68,000 individuals gained the ability to accept the eternal nature of the teachings.
