DAY 26: Socializing the Noble Truths

THESIS: We are taught that suffering is private: your karma, your attitude, your problem to meditate away.

LOTUS LOGIC: In 1931, in the teeth of Imperial Japan, Senoʼo Girō looked at the First Noble Truth and asked an impolite question: what if much of this suffering is manufactured? He founded the Youth League for Revitalizing Buddhism on that question, and he wrote the sentence that got him arrested by the thought police: “There is no use in preaching the Dharma to a hungry man. We must first change the system that keeps him hungry.”

🌷 Some of your pain is yours to transform. Some of it was built for you, and naming that is also practice.
🌷 Feed the person first. The sermon can wait.

ACTION: The next time you hear “everything happens for a reason,” ask whose reason. Then do one concrete thing for someone the system forgot.
