Glowing lotus flowers rise through an underwater garden with fish and sunbeams

DAY 29: The Never Disparaging Vow

THESIS: Some people make it genuinely hard to respect them. The cruel commenter. The smug opponent. The relative who knows exactly which button to press.

LOTUS LOGIC: Chapter 20 gives the tradition’s hardest practice a name: the Never Disparaging Bodhisattva. Ridiculed, beaten, driven off by the respectable religious elite of his day, he kept bowing to them anyway, saying the same sentence: I would never dare look down on you, for you will become a buddha. Not because they deserved it in the moment. Because the long arc of every life bends toward awakening, and he refused to bet against it.

🌷 Bowing to someone’s potential is not approving of their behavior.
🌷 Never bet against a person’s bloom. The sutra has seen the ending.

ACTION: Think of the person who most reliably provokes you. Find one true sentence about their potential. Hold it the next time they press the button.
